January marked the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland. I have seen this parade literally hundreds of times. That’s not an exaggeration. When I worked at the Golden Vine Winery at DCA, the parade (Then renamed “Disney’s Electrical Parade”) passed by the outdoor terrace in which I worked during every weekend and peak-season night. I also saw the show dozens of times growing up. That’s not to say that I wasn’t excited for the parade to return, in fact I was very excited. Of course I was especially stoked because I had never photographed this parade before!
Although MSEP isn’t as fresh or high tech as say “Paint the Night”, it’s all about the nostalgia. The soundtrack. Something about watching the same parade we watched as children, and for some of us, the same parade our parents watched as children in the 1970s. When I was 7 years old, on the top bunk of my bunk beds I had an MSEP pennant. This show is part of my Disney DNA and I was thrilled to be able to capture it in photo.
One of my favorite photos so far is this one of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. The lights of the ship’s sails make a perfect frame for the duo, and Peter’s expression is awesome.
