I haven’t photographed fireworks from Rivers of America since “Disneyland Forever” last Summer, and I finally got around to doing it again for “Remember… Dreams Come True”. I really enjoy shooting from this location. Although there’s no projections, and the castle flares don’t line up with the off-site fireworks, it’s still a beautiful way to watch the show. The main bursts explode over the Mark Twain Riverboat, and are reflected on the water below. The best part though, is the fact that you can show up about 10 minutes prior to the show and not have to fight crowds for a good view — it is not a very busy viewing location, save for extremely crowded days during peak season.
I realized that with Fantasmic!! (ver 2.0) returning this summer, with its FastPass viewing areas, this next couple of months may be my last chance to easily shoot from this location. I’m glad I did! It brought back memories of last Summer, it was fun shooting with my friend Vy, and luckily the lights on the Mark Twain were on — sometimes they aren’t!
This time, I used an ND filter (I sort of explained here) so I could get longer exposures and more fireworks in one photo — around 25 seconds long for each photo.
Unfortunately, my remote shutter broke, and I don’t have a lens hood for this lens, so there’s some flaring and glare from the lamppost I was next to, but at least I managed to get these long exposures without shaking the camera!
